what is the best way to clean my mattress?

best mattresses

OK..I was watching TV and saw this commercial about dustmites and allergens contained in mattresses and now I am really grossed out and refuse to go to bed until I clean the mattress. Any ideas how? I have a steamer (like the one advertised on TV). Is that the best thing to use? If not, what is? Whoever has the best answer and helps me rest easy gets the 10 points!!!

    Sleep on the couch.

the Kirby vaccum removes more particles than the steamer. I have plastic mattress pad that covers the mattress. then i wash all the bed coverings

Give the mattress a vacuum and a wipe-over with disinfectant. Don’t get too stressed about the TV commercial. They are using scare tactics to push their product. Dustmites have been around since time began. You’ve been living with them quite unconcerned until you saw the TV thing. There are all kinds of things that would probably freak us out if we saw them under a microscope. No need to get too neurotic about them.

Vacuum your mattress and then encase it in a hypoallergenic mattress cover. You can get them at Wal-Mart.
