Question by dandelion: Polyurethane foam pillow- – - TOXIC???
I just bought a 100% polyurethane foam pillow! I am so excited to use it, it feels so comfy!

Ironically, tonight I saw a news report- this man worked in a mattress factory and shed light on toxicity of chemical substances on mattresses–it was like boric acid, for fire retardant.

So, I go get my mail tonight and in Wellbeing magazine, there is a large write up on toxicity in our homes. One particular item listed is “Your Bed”, and it goes to discuss the exact same findings. I couldn’t truly decipher from the write-up what they had been saying about polyurethane, but it doesn’t sound excellent. I went and checked my new pillow—100% polyurethane foam!!!

It DOES reek of “new smell”, and yes, it smells sorta like bugspray! I cannot believe it! Does anybody know about the stuff or have any links where I can locate info???

If you are worried about safety, you are far greater off with the fire retardant. The lengthy term toxic effects are negligible compared to the threat of a fire starting.
