Mattress help – Memory foam or Normal Mattress?
Question by vsub: Mattress aid – Memory foam or Typical Mattress?
I have been reading all these reviews about Memory foam mattress like Novaform from Costco, they are mixed evaluations. On the other hand we looked at some Simmins Beauty Rest and Sealy matresses also, we like Simmons 800 count with pillow prime. But its just this feeling I am not sure if I am gonna miss a thing if I do not get Memory foam. Anybody who has attempted each matresses please advice. Thanks

We have both, A memory foam in our master bed space and a Simmons BR in our RV.
The memory foam breaks down within a year of use. It develops a depression where you usually sleep. In the course of the day it springs back to flat, but when you lie down, you will sink in. It appears the memory works each ways.
The Simmons does not create sleep depressions, but it also is tougher to sleep on. We purchased a memory foam topper at Costco and now the Simmons with the topper is the very best of two worlds.

First of all, Novaform is an all foam mattress (usually a combination of memory foam plus regular foam), while the Simmons Beautryrest mattresses are not an all foam mattress.
The Simmons Beautyrest mattresses come in three different collections: Classic, World Class, and Exceptionale. All are spring mattresss with a layer of memory foam and/or latex and/or regular foam. However, be advised that the first two collections (Classic and World Class) usually only have less than an inch of memory foam and/or latex. The Exceptionale collection has a few mattresses that are also less than an inch memory foam/latex but the rest have more than an inch of these foams (usually priced at $ 2449 plus for a queen set).
Both mattresses are different (memory foam and Simmons Beautyrest). You get a lot more support with Simmons because of its excellent coil spring system yet you have a nice effect on the surface with its layers of memory foam and/or latex. The memory foam mattress works with your body heat and it comforms to your body when you lay down.
I personally do not recommend memory foam mattresses to customers who suffer from back pain, sweat a lot at night, or elderly people (i know some salespeople in our industry will recommend them and say the opposite because they are obiviously getting a better commission on a more costly mattress as these memory foam mattresses are) but I rather give customers the facts.
You will also find yourself struggling a bit if you need to toss or turn on a memory foam mattress, again if you are young and healthy that should be no problem, but if you want to feel like you are sleeping in a hole then memory foam should be ok with you. Memory foam does take a little while to return to its actual shape so turning may leave you falling back to that impression unless you give the memory foam time to re-shape.
Also note that since memory foam works with heat, this foam will get softer in a hotter environment and harder on a cold environment. Out showroom at one point was so cold that the memory foam mattresses felt like a rock! lol Once we got some heat going, it felt soft again.
As far as impressions on a mattress, these are usually normal unless they are 2″ or more (considered a defect by all manufacturers). If your mattress has an impresson that’s 2″ or more and doesnt’ go away, then you have a warranty claim.
Also, when you go to shop for your mattress ask about the store’s “Trial Exchange”. Most retailers have this, my store offers 90-Day Comfort Trial, which allows customers to take the mattress home, try it out for 90-days, and if they don’t like the way the mattress feels (too firm, too soft, etc), the customer can exchange it for another mattress.
Because “Comfort Trial Exchanges” usually have a disclosure that says you can exchange your mattress for another “mattress of equal or greater value.” I suggest you buy the cheaper priced one if you can not make up your mind between two or more models. This way, you won’t loose the difference if you end up exchanging to a lower priced one.
Good luck!

In terms of comfort and pressure relief there is no comparison, memory foam trumps a spring mattress hands down.
Memory foam distributes your weight. There wont be any pressure build on on your hip and shoulder so no restricted blood flow and no tossing and turning. They are also dust mite resistant. It’s a healthier overall sleep.
A regular mattress has a incubator in the middle where the spring are. All the dust mite feces and bacterial build strength there.
The only think you should be concerned about at this point are the chemicals in regular memory foam. Some made overseas contain harsh chemicals. You can see a list of chemicals in the source below.
