Getting credit for Simmon’s mattress?
By fthomas | April 5, 2009
In the last 3 years, I have had two Simmons’ Beautyrest mattresses develop “potholes.” The first one was inspected and deemed defective and replaced by the store where I purchased it. Now the second one has been deemed defective. I’m not a giant or anything (6′1″, 185 lbs).
The store I got both of them from says that they will not give me my money back but will instead replace the mattress under warranty. I do not want another Simmons but that is all the store carries. They said if I want my money back I need to take it up with Simmons.
Does this make any sense? Has anyone been successful getting a refund from the manufacturer for their defective mattress?
The frame does have a center support and it has been checked along with the box spring for defects when they have inspected the mattresses. According to the store inspectors, everything looks fine.

While it is not unheard of, it is very rare that a mattress store will give you a refund for your mattress. You are correct, you should not have a problem like this with your mattress. It does happen sometimes though. Do you have a center bar with a foot underneath your mattress? The support system that you are using could be contributing to this issue. If you are using a headboard/footboard, you could try adding extra center supports.
The first time this happened, did they replace your foundation also, or just the mattress? Generally, unless something defective is found in the foundation, they will only replace the mattress. What I would do is ask that this time they replace both the mattress and the foundation. If there is something wrong with your foundation, it will quickly cause dips and sags in your mattress. If you believe that the model you have is just not cutting it, you can also ask if they will let you “upgrade” and pay the difference. I know you may not want to invest any more money in this manufacturer, but from personal experience, this does not happen often with any of the major manufacturers. You can also try going directly to Simmons. They may redirect you back to your local dealer, but a strongly worded phone call from a Simmons customer service representative sometimes can go a long way to motivating a mattress store into doing the right thing. I don’t know if you still have it, but here is a link to Simmons warranty information also.
I hope this helps. There is a possibility to get your money back, but that will have to come from Simmons if your local store doesn’t want to step up and help you. Just plead your case and see. At the worst, maybe they will let you upgrade to the next level. (Beautyrest Classic -> World Class -> Exceptionale)
